Faith and Family Friday–Don’t be an Outlaw to your In-Laws

The Waltons–In-Laws at their Finest Good in-law relations aren’t something you see portrayed in movies, TV, or books very often. Generally, you see the exact opposite. Yet it’s a topic that’s heavy on my heart, and a recurring theme in all my (still unpublished!) books. I realize that not everyone is blessed with the kind of in-laws I have. I… Read More

Faith and Family Friday–Another Day, Another Year…

This Friday is the day before my birthday. I keep forgetting how old I’ll actually be…nope, not going to tell you! Grin. I have some wonderful birthday memories, from my ninth birthday slumber party with friends, to my thirtieth party with family surrounding me. I want to do something really adventurous for my fortieth birthday (nope, it’s not this year!),… Read More

Faith and Family Friday–Filling up my Poetic Soul

I blogged not too long ago about how we were stepping out in faith, moving with no job locked in for my husband. We’re moved in, back to the mountains of West Virginia from which I sprung (–sprang? had sprung?). I never thought I’d come back. It felt like the mountains suffocated me with their trees and limited sky-scapes. Turns… Read More

Faith and Family Friday–Guest Blogger HEATHER HARRIS On Feeding your Chickens Right

Today, we conclude our two-part series on raising chickens! Heather “HippyHomesteader” Harris will explain what to feed those cheepy, egg-laying machines. You will still need to provide some supplementation,… Read More

Faith and Family Friday–Guest Blogger HEATHER HARRIS on Getting Started with Chickens

I’m so excited to have my guest blogger this Friday and the next! I know many of you are branching into homesteading, given our precarious economy. Since we’re hoping to get into raising some chickens ourselves, I knew I had to ask my friend “Heather HippyHomesteader” (aka Heather Harris) how to go about it!  You can find Heather at:Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/homesteadhippy/Facebook:… Read More

Faith and Family Friday–Jeff and Anne Watts Answer my Probing Marriage Questions

I met Jeff and Anne Watts a few years ago, when they led a marriage retreat for our church. I was struck by their wisdom and fun new ideas on ways to make marriages work. I knew they would be just the right interviewees for my top five burning marriage questions.  I know you’re going to enjoy what they have… Read More

Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love setting my contemporary mystery series in my home state of WV. What you might not know is that there was a time I wanted nothing more than to move away and spread my wings (somewhere like NYC! Where I wound up living for a year when I got married!). But years down the road, I felt my mountain roots pulling me back. Suddenly, I could see nothing but beauty in these comforting mountains and moody skies and honeysuckled summers. West Virginia is so many things—good and bad as any state is—but it’s entirely unique. My husband once marveled at how many people “came back” to their home state here, even after being gone for years, and I see that all the time. These #Appalachianmountains have a way about them, and it becomes a part of you, a love you don’t want to let go of. I’m a #mountainmama, and I’m glad to bring this truly #wildandwonderful state to readers with my books.
