When Writing Takes you into the Deep Waters

As many of you know, I’m in the process of writing my second Viking historical novel, Forest Child. As a select few of you also know, I have deliberately tried to back-burner it for several months (years?), simply because I knew my main character’s real life story (Freydis Eiriksdottir) and I knew it was going to be hard to write…. Why I Write Flawed Main Characters

It’s an interesting experience, writing in first person. You see, when you write in first person, the reader is in your main character’s head. And, well… SOMETIMES READERS DON’T LOVE YOUR MAIN CHARACTER. Sometimes your main character does things less than heroic. Sometimes your main men might not say something when they should. Sometimes your main women might not be… Read More

Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love setting my contemporary mystery series in my home state of WV. What you might not know is that there was a time I wanted nothing more than to move away and spread my wings (somewhere like NYC! Where I wound up living for a year when I got married!). But years down the road, I felt my mountain roots pulling me back. Suddenly, I could see nothing but beauty in these comforting mountains and moody skies and honeysuckled summers. West Virginia is so many thingsโ€”good and bad as any state isโ€”but itโ€™s entirely unique. My husband once marveled at how many people โ€œcame backโ€ to their home state here, even after being gone for years, and I see that all the time. These #Appalachianmountains have a way about them, and it becomes a part of you, a love you donโ€™t want to let go of. Iโ€™m a #mountainmama, and Iโ€™m glad to bring this truly #wildandwonderful state to readers with my books.
