We still have some Lazy Days of Summer book reviews coming down the pike, but I couldn’t wait to launch this next blog series. I wanted to share little bits of my Viking novel, God’s Daughter, with you, so I decided to go the PicMonkey route and give you pinnable quotes and pictures. I will freely admit it took me… Read More

Guest Blogger Michelle Griep–A Gentlewoman’s Guide to Opium Addiction

Let’s just say my dear friend Michelle Griep has a knack for catchy titles, as evidenced above. Don’t fear. We aren’t advocating opium use in any way, shape, or form today. Rather, Michelle’s going to share some of her research for her recent release, A Heart Deceived. Michelle Griep And why do I love Michelle? Hm. She wrote about Vikings… Read More

Hope you can check it out. In the post, I discuss women in Viking society. I’d written this before the Vikings miniseries came out–but feel free to comment over there about how history confirms/doesn’t confirm the direction they’re… Read More

The NORSEMEN are here!

VIKINGS miniseries on The History Channel As you probably heard, the Vikings miniseries launched on The History Channel Sunday night. As I mentioned on my FB author page, #Vikings was the top trender that day on twitter. It’s nice to look up #Vikings and find stuff about ACTUAL Vikings for a change, and not the football team. Not that I… Read More

What is your Book’s PURPOSE?

One of my fave histfic books ever. Not too many details yet evokes a time period. Driving first-person storyline. I just read an excellent post by Baker acquisitions editor Chad Allen here: http://www.chadrallen.com/2012/11/29/the-not-very-sexy-essential-to-your-books-mind-blowing-success/. Basically, he was in a situation where he had to explain what need would be met by the book he presented to the publishing committee. In other… Read More

Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love setting my contemporary mystery series in my home state of WV. What you might not know is that there was a time I wanted nothing more than to move away and spread my wings (somewhere like NYC! Where I wound up living for a year when I got married!). But years down the road, I felt my mountain roots pulling me back. Suddenly, I could see nothing but beauty in these comforting mountains and moody skies and honeysuckled summers. West Virginia is so many things—good and bad as any state is—but it’s entirely unique. My husband once marveled at how many people ā€œcame backā€ to their home state here, even after being gone for years, and I see that all the time. These #Appalachianmountains have a way about them, and it becomes a part of you, a love you don’t want to let go of. I’m a #mountainmama, and I’m glad to bring this truly #wildandwonderful state to readers with my books.
