Don’t ask me where this blogpost idea came from, but I happened to think of all the pithy sayings we’ve all heard and dismissed while growing up…only to find out they were very true as we got older! Maybe it’s because I write West Virginia mysteries/suspense and sometimes my characters might pop out with an age-old maxim, although I do try to keep the cliches down. But some things are just so obviously true, they do bear repeating! I thought I’d make a list of some I’ve seen play out:
“The squeaky wheel gets the grease.”
“Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.”
“What goes around comes around.”
“You won’t know if you don’t ask.”
“If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
“Tomorrow is a new day.” (thank you, Scarlett O’Hara! LOL)
And on that note, I’ll share my Pinterest board that includes a lot of Southern sayings. You can find that here and here is a cute one I just found:
***How about you? What well-known sayings have you found generally hold true in life? Any that don’t? One saying I’ve seen both ways is “There’s honor among thieves” and “There’s NO honor among thieves.” Personally, even though I’m sure thieves have their own code (more like a set of suggestions! HA), I’m pretty sure if you’re lying, stealing, killing, etc., you’ll be more than happy to stab your own crew in the back. But then again, I read a lot of mysteries!***

Dad always says, “Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but gets you nowhere.”
