And as 2020 finally pulls to a close, I wanted to share some high points in this otherwise not-so-hot year.
-My son got married on Saturday! We had a lovely time at their wintery wedding in Upstate New York (there were piles of snow outside, but the day was sunny and the roads were clear!). We are so thrilled with this joyous union and are so happy to have a wonderful new Mrs. Gilbert in the family!
-My hubby and I got to hang out with a couple of our closest friends in a cabin in the woods in October. It’s always fantastic to catch up and learn from each other, plus eat wonderful food like STEAK on the grill and play hilarious board games together.
-My older three children have gotten to spend a lot of time at home, which has been such a blessing for their littlest sister and for us!
-Finally, you readers are amazing! Thank you for buying my books and sharing about them with others. Paula just sent me a lovely email, sharing this pic of my softcovers she got for Christmas!
I also want to share three of my TOP READS of 2020! Since I had four of my own book releases this year, I haven’t had a lot of time to read. But three books in particular have stood out and stuck with me. I’ll put the covers below and link to them on Amazon.
I loved The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek because I learned more about the Appalachian “blue people” and about the horseback (or mule-back!) librarians who delivered books to the poor. Also because the dialect was authentic of the Appalachians I know and love. And it just sticks with me.
Extinction Island was an unusual genre for me–sci fi. It had heavier romance, which isn’t generally my thing, but the concept was unusual and the characters were memorable. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.
The Sowing Season was a book that interested me because it portrays a dairy farmer, and my father-in-law is one. I have to say the farm aspect was portrayed with sensitivity and understanding, and there were so many other things I loved, as well (like the portrayal of a married relationship, friendship of old/young, and reaching out to needy teens). Restoration was a huge theme, and it was very well done.
I loved plenty of other books in 2020! If you want to read more of my Goodreads recommendations/reads, you can follow me here: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7232683.Heather_Day_Gilbert.
What were YOUR top three reads of 2020?
