Coming Clean–My Name is Heather, and I’m a Christian Author…

Hello! I really want to start a new series on my blog, but first wanted to point out something you may not have noticed yet...I'm a Christian author. Yes, it's in my "about me" section and it's up on my twitter profile. I just started the #Christfic hashtag so we can share tweets w/other … [Read more...]

New Twitter Hashtag–#Christfic

As a total newbie twitter-er, I've searched and searched and can't find a hashtag to link up Christian fiction writers. I'd love to follow those writing posts and book news, so I'm officially starting one! (Tell me if it's already going! I know there's a ACFW tag, but I'm not in it yet!). So please … [Read more...]

Newbie Writing Mistakes Monday–KEEP TRACK OF QUERIES!

This post is going to be short & sweet, because a) the time change, combined with allergy-induced asthma, has brewed the perfect storm of sleep-loss for me, and b) this is an easy one--you probably already do it!Here it is: Keep Good Records of Agents You've Queried. When I queried my first … [Read more...]

Guest Blogger–CREEPY QUERY GIRL Talks Queries!

My guest blogger today never ceases to amuse AND inform me with her blogposts. I started following her when I was in the depths of my querying despair, because her blog-name said it all: "Creepy Query Girl" (aren't we all, at some point or another!). You can find her over at … [Read more...]

Newbie Writing Mistakes Monday–TAKING CRITICISM

If you've been writing for any length of time, and if you've let anyone other than your mom read your stuff, you've probably run into a little criticism. When I finished my NaNo novel with a dramatic yelp of joy, I knew it was headed straight for publication. No roadblocks. Just sheer, unquestioning … [Read more...]

Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love setting my contemporary mystery series in my home state of WV. What you might not know is that there was a time I wanted nothing more than to move away and spread my wings (somewhere like NYC! Where I wound up living for a year when I got married!). But years down the road, I felt my mountain roots pulling me back. Suddenly, I could see nothing but beauty in these comforting mountains and moody skies and honeysuckled summers. West Virginia is so many things—good and bad as any state is—but it’s entirely unique. My husband once marveled at how many people “came back” to their home state here, even after being gone for years, and I see that all the time. These #Appalachianmountains have a way about them, and it becomes a part of you, a love you don’t want to let go of. I’m a #mountainmama, and I’m glad to bring this truly #wildandwonderful state to readers with my books.
