On Rejection and My Attempts to Deal With It

After a stellar and astonishing week, when no less than FOUR agents were requesting my sample chapters/pages, and my children and husband would attest that my happiness was through the roof, I have had a letdown, reject week of almost equal proportions. Two of the bigger historical fiction agents … [Read more...]

Just a Taste

Hello all my faithful fans! Just wanted to give you a little bite of my next book. The first 250 words of the first chapter are up on the blogspot link below, and open for comments! Id love to get some positive feedback on there, as I believe there is an agent who reviews these entries. Lets … [Read more...]

An Edit a Day…

I would like to blog, on my birthday (okay, we're actually into the next day at 12:22 @ night) that I have finished the editing of my Viking book. Well, the first edit. My own personal edit, which may not be too edit-y. I will now follow in the footsteps of my great-aunt, who is also a writer, … [Read more...]

THE WRITER WHEN FINISHED–PALE, LACKING MAKEUP OR RECENT HAIRCOLOR, BUT SMUG NONETHELESS

I am tempted to write this entire post in caps, because I am definitely shouting inside. Months have passed, exactly how many, I'm not sure, but at least six. And my historical fiction book on an awesome Viking woman named Gudrid is now done. Writers keep so much bottled up, pouring forth their … [Read more...]

Surreal Stuff!

I'm a little delirious today, and I don't think it's just from fumes from my husband's lawnmower repair in the basement. I have reached the 50,000 word mark for my new Viking book--it's the same length as Otherworld now. 30,000 words to go. No problem, I say to myself in my delirium. NO Problem, … [Read more...]

E-Books vs “Real” Books

You know you're getting attached to your book when you hate to leave the world you've created to actually live your own life! I'm definitely at that point in my book (just one chapter from being HALF DONE! almost 40,000 words down!), where my characters just take on lives of their own. I … [Read more...]

Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love setting my contemporary mystery series in my home state of WV. What you might not know is that there was a time I wanted nothing more than to move away and spread my wings (somewhere like NYC! Where I wound up living for a year when I got married!). But years down the road, I felt my mountain roots pulling me back. Suddenly, I could see nothing but beauty in these comforting mountains and moody skies and honeysuckled summers. West Virginia is so many things—good and bad as any state is—but it’s entirely unique. My husband once marveled at how many people ā€œcame backā€ to their home state here, even after being gone for years, and I see that all the time. These #Appalachianmountains have a way about them, and it becomes a part of you, a love you don’t want to let go of. I’m a #mountainmama, and I’m glad to bring this truly #wildandwonderful state to readers with my books.
