Yup, I’m Jumping on the “Bloggy-Break” Train!

Thank you all so much for visiting my guest post at Southern Writers on Wednesday! Loved your comments! So, I’ve decided that since my brain is all but derailed this month, I need to take a blogging break. Still waiting to hear back on submissions for my Viking novel (yes, I’ll freely admit it’s been almost 10 months of waiting… Read More

Writer Stuff I Wish I’d Known…

After five attempts at writing a deep blogpost, I gave up. I know some of you have asked about my writing journey. So I thought I’d list a few things I wish someone would’ve told me when I started out. I wasn’t blogging then, so I didn’t really have any fiction-writing mentors (though I’ll give a shout-out to Brian Jones,… Read More

All-Tuckered Out Friday

What great comments on this Wednesday’s blog about grief! I appreciate you readers so much.Today, I’m taking a little break. The cool thing is that I’m now the West Virginia ACFW area coordinator! I’m very excited about this, but I’ve been busy setting up our group page.  If you’re around WV and you’re interested in conferences going on in the… Read More

What’s YOUR Fancy?

Today, I have a major question for you, my blog readers: What do you like about this blog? What keeps you coming back? In other words, what tickles your fancy? The author interviews? The homeschool posts? The book reviews? The video blogs, complete with Southern accent? Newbie writer tips? Classy quotes? Viking lore? Appalachian lore? Or do you like any… Read More

DERECHO Rhymes with JERICHO–Living without Power for 10 Days in WV

There are many times when you just have no words for what you’ve been through. This is not one of those times for me. We got hit, square-on, by the derecho storm that ran through much of the northeast on June 29, 2012. Here’s a NASA clip on Youtube of what it looked like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xjmUZq4I7M. It’s basically like a huge wall… Read More

Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love setting my contemporary mystery series in my home state of WV. What you might not know is that there was a time I wanted nothing more than to move away and spread my wings (somewhere like NYC! Where I wound up living for a year when I got married!). But years down the road, I felt my mountain roots pulling me back. Suddenly, I could see nothing but beauty in these comforting mountains and moody skies and honeysuckled summers. West Virginia is so many things—good and bad as any state is—but it’s entirely unique. My husband once marveled at how many people ā€œcame backā€ to their home state here, even after being gone for years, and I see that all the time. These #Appalachianmountains have a way about them, and it becomes a part of you, a love you don’t want to let go of. I’m a #mountainmama, and I’m glad to bring this truly #wildandwonderful state to readers with my books.
