TRITINA POEM–BLOGGER

For fun, I decided to flex my poem-writing muscles over on the Writer’s Digest blog (link down on the right, just look up poetic asides–tritenas). They were practicing tritinas, in which the last word of the poem lines go in this order:

A
B
C

C
A
B

B
C
A

(Last line uses ABC in any order).

So here’s a little ditty I whipped up. As yet, however, they still haven’t gotten my comments moderated, so who knows if they’ll show up over on the Writer’s Digest link.

Nothing personal, but sometimes I feel like blogging consumes a bit too much of my writing time. You know I love MY blog followers! I hope you enjoy this, and I know you other writers out there know what I’m talking about!

BLOGGER-–

Come visit my blog–
There’s a give-away.
If you follow me, I’ll follow you.

I really don’t know you–
But on my blog,
My whole life’s a give-away.

In very fact, I hate to give away
So much of me to you.
I don’t know why I blog.

I’m going to write books, not give away my words, blogging just to please you.

This is great! Such an interesting format…I'm also trying to inspire creativity/flex some unused writing muscles, by dabbling in some haiku-writing…

It is such a COOL format, I'd highly recommend it. There are some other great zingers at the Writer's Digest site.

Every day, I wonder why I waste my time blogging–except, of course, I'm writing, so can't complain. Sigh.

Ha–yes, Jill, it does count as writing! I do think I've improved my spot-checking skills somewhat by blogging, instead of just publishing the first draft of whatever hits my head!

I love playing around with poetry. On Swagger, Regina Gort is our poet and at our Highlights retreat she had us write the "Where I'm From" poems on our pages. I've been told by come critique friends that it's not very good, but it felt wonderful to write it. I've also had a lot of fun with ABC poems. I figure anything that challenges you to really think about what you write and use fewer words is good writing practice.

Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love Happy #WestVirginiaDay! You might know that I love setting my contemporary mystery series in my home state of WV. What you might not know is that there was a time I wanted nothing more than to move away and spread my wings (somewhere like NYC! Where I wound up living for a year when I got married!). But years down the road, I felt my mountain roots pulling me back. Suddenly, I could see nothing but beauty in these comforting mountains and moody skies and honeysuckled summers. West Virginia is so many things—good and bad as any state is—but it’s entirely unique. My husband once marveled at how many people “came back” to their home state here, even after being gone for years, and I see that all the time. These #Appalachianmountains have a way about them, and it becomes a part of you, a love you don’t want to let go of. I’m a #mountainmama, and I’m glad to bring this truly #wildandwonderful state to readers with my books.
